Gov. Ducey Signs School Choice Bill!
Statement from Center for Arizona Policy President Cathi Herrod
Governor Doug Ducey signed a groundbreaking school choice bill, making Arizona the first state to put in place a universal Empowerment Scholarship Account program. Governor Ducey’s signature yesterday on SB 1431 opens up eligibility to all Arizona students in a district or charter school.
Yesterday’s state House and Senate debates were long and often misleading, but a majority of lawmakers saw through the hyperbole and did what was best for Arizona families.
Join me in thanking the governor, SB 1431 sponsor Sen. Debbie Lesko, Senate President Steve Yarbrough, House Speaker J.D. Mesnard, Rep. John Allen, and the many lawmakers who took a bold stand for students and voted to pass this important legislation.
Let’s show our governor and legislators that we stand with them when they stand with Arizona families. Lawmakers supporting school choice have been subject to some of the most vicious attacks I’ve seen on any bill. They more than deserve our gratitude and support.
