Welcome to Arizona
Over the next few days, the valley will be the focus of several national gatherings of evangelicals. Please be in prayer for these events.
Harvest America: Greg Laurie
On Sunday, June 11, Harvest America and Greg Laurie will be coming to the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Harvest America describes the event on its website:
“The Good News of Jesus Christ is the most important message there is. That’s why we’re declaring 2017 the Year of Good News and proclaiming the gospel to a world in need through Harvest America—a live nationwide free event on June 11, broadcast live from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, to thousands of host locations across the country—including churches, theaters, and living rooms.
With music from NEEDTOBREATHE, MercyMe, Jordin Sparks, Trip Lee, Phil Wickham, and Brennley Brown, I will present a clear gospel message and together we will deliver the Good News to a nation desperately in need of hope.”
Please be in prayer that the gospel is powerfully proclaimed, that thousands would come to faith in Christ, and that they would find their way to a Bible-believing church.

Southern Baptist Convention
CAP also welcomes our brothers and sisters in Christ that will be visiting Phoenix on June 13-14 for the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, and provides leading evangelical voices for life, marriage and family, and religious freedom, including Albert Mohler and Russell Moore.
Albert Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, provides invaluable daily cultural analysis in his podcast “The Briefing,” where he regularly addresses the foundational values we defend and promote at CAP.
Russell Moore, whom we had the privilege to host for a CAP lunch last year, is president of The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (ERLC), and has become a vocal defender of foundational values at the national level.
Join me in praying that God would bless the annual meeting, and that the gospel of Christ would continue to go forth through the work of Southern Baptists.
SCOTUS Refuses to Hear Religious Freedom Case
In the not so good news category, this week the U.S. Supreme Court declined to consider a military case involving lance corporal Monica J. Sterling’s right to display Bible verses at a shared work space. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces had found that orders from her superiors to remove the verses did not violate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act because the orders did not constitute a “substantial burden” on her exercise of religion.
By refusing to hear the case, the justices allowed the ruling from the lower court to stand.
