ARIZONA DAILY INDEPENDENT: Arizona School District Governing Board Rejects Biden Administration’s Rewrite of Title IX

As reported by the Arizona Daily Independent, the Dysart Unified School District Governing Board has rejected President Joe Biden’s proposed Title IX rewrite that would redefine “sex” to include “gender identity.” This change, which undermines protections for female students, was met with strong opposition by the board.  The article states:

“Title IX has long guaranteed a level playing field for girls and women, but bowing to a small segment of society, the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) issued new regulations in April that were to go into effect later this summer.”

Parents and young women have called the Biden administration’s regulations “draconian” and “devoid of scientific basis.” The board, led by Dysart Unified School District Governing Board President Dawn Densmore, affirmed their commitment to protecting girls’ sports and maintaining a level playing field. The author writes:

“The District will not demand that parents or guardians compel the speech of their minor children, or the First Amendment rights of our staff in a way that contradicts their family values or religious freedoms.”

Advocacy groups like Arizona Women of Action hope other districts will follow Dysart’s lead. Densmore emphasized the board’s commitment to protecting women and children. The article quotes Densmore:

“It’s an honor to lead the way in efforts to protect children and our faith communities from this government overreach.”
