LIVE ACTION NEWS: Kroger vowed to offer ‘the highest level of care.’ Now it may be selling discounted abortion pills.

Carole Novielli of Live Action News reports that Kroger may be making the abortion pill mifepristone available at discounted prices to members of its Health Savings Club.

Mifepristone is a drug designed to terminate pregnancies; a fact explicitly stated on the grocery chain’s website. The pill not only takes the lives of unborn children but also endangers the health and safety of women. Novielli writes:

The abortion pill mifepristone (200mg) is listed among the many “popular” drugs offered upon applying for a Kroger Health Savings Club membership. The program allows members to “start saving up to 85% on your prescription medications.” A search for the drug’s pricing on the Kroger Health Savings Club website reveals that it will offer members the pill for $7.

Novielli highlights that this initiative is part of a larger trend following the outgoing Biden administration’s decision to allow retail pharmacies to dispense abortion pills, which has led to increasing pressure on pharmacy chains like Kroger to participate in these practices.

As the abortion pill mifepristone becomes alarmingly normalized in pharmacy settings, it remains a drug with severe risks and deadly complications. These include life-threatening complications such as sepsis and the need for surgery in approximately 7% of cases. Despite these dangers, companies like Kroger continue to align with political pressure to expand access. Novielli elaborates:

Live Action News previously detailed how pharmacy chains are being pressured to become certified to dispense the deadly drug… In July of 2024, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander sent letters to pharmacy giants… urging them to “[p]rovide abortion medication or risk losing investor confidence” and to “start dispensing mifepristone without delay.”

Kroger’s choice to sell abortion pills at a discount is indefensible. By treating a drug that ends human lives and carries severe risks to women’s health as a routine prescription, the company has crossed a line that should outrage Americans across the board.
