On Tuesday of this week, the U.S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education held a hearing that spotlighted educational freedom. At the hearing, Arizona’s own Jenny Clark, founder of Love Your School, shared a compelling testimony about how Arizona’s Educational Scholarship Account Program (ESA) has helped her children overcome learning challenges by finding the educational services that work for them. As Jenny explained, “Arizona’s ESA program saves taxpayers money and allows parents to direct their children’s education, regardless of their income or zip code.” You can watch all of Jenny’s compelling testimony here (it begins at 29:52).
It’s only March, but so far 2025 has been an exciting year for educational freedom. In January, President Trump issued a groundbreaking Executive Order expanding educational freedom and opportunities for families. The Order recognizes that a “growing body of rigorous research demonstrates that well-designed education-freedom programs improve student achievement and cause nearby public schools to improve their performance.” President Trump’s Order directly states “It is the policy of my Administration to support parents in choosing and directing the upbringing and education of their children.” What a difference from Governor Katie Hobbs! Rather than celebrating the many educational opportunities available to families in Arizona, she used her State of the State Address to repeatedly attack educational freedom—pushing myth after myth about ESAs. The contrast couldn’t be more pronounced.
Parents—not politicians—should control the education of their children. It’s refreshing to see this first principle being recognized and gaining momentum in Washington, D.C. When it comes to educational freedom, Arizona is a model for the country. That’s good for families and makes Arizona a more desirable place for raising and educating children.

Supreme Court Takes Up Counseling Censorship Case
On Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States took the case of a counselor in Colorado who is seeking to help her clients navigate sensitive issues without being required to convey a government-mandated, transgender ideology message. This case will have important implications for the freedom of professionals to serve their clients free from government coercion. It also highlights the way that the radical transgender movement has sought to shape society by targeting the independence of professional counselors. Unfortunately, we’ve seen this power play in Arizona. For several years, Pima County has had an ordinance targeting professional counselors. The case the Supreme Court took this week, Chiles v. Salazar, is a good opportunity for the Court to affirm the constitutional right of counselors to help their patients according to their conscience and demonstrates that overbearing laws—like the Pima County ordinance—are inconsistent with core constitutional freedoms.
