Q: What do all of these drugs have in common?
Actiq: For the management of breakthrough cancer pain in patients with malignancies who are already receiving and who are tolerant to opioid therapy for their underlying persistent cancer pain.
Revlimid: Provides for the treatment of patients with transfusion-dependent anemia due to Low- or Intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes associated with a deletion 5q cytogenetic abnormality with or without additional cytogenetic abnormalities.
Plenaxis: Provides for the use of Plenaxis (abarelix for injectable suspension, 100 mg) for the palliative treatment of men with advanced symptomatic prostate cancer.
Mifeprex: For medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy through 49 days’ pregnancy.
A: All of these drugs were approved under “Subpart H” by the Food and Drug Administration – a special designation used for medications that are only approved for usage with specific post-market restrictions to protect patient’s health and safety.
Yet Planned Parenthood has decided to ignore this protocol from the FDA, and distribute Mifeprex – also known as the abortion pill – through 63 days pregnancy.
That’s why in 2012, as a part of the CAP-supported Mother’s Health and Safety Act, the Arizona Legislature said abortionists must distribute this dangerous and deadly pill in line with how the FDA approved it.
Currently Planned Parenthood is challenging this common sense Arizona law. Arizona’s largest abortion provider is claiming that following this standard of care is an “undue burden” to a woman’s right to an abortion, even though it is the only protocol approved by the FDA.
Just this month, 21 AZ Representatives and 11 AZ Senators, including the original sponsor of the bill, signed on to an Amicus Curiae (friend of the court) Brief in support of the law. These 32 legislators expressed that it was “Arizona’s significant interest, as well as their own interest as representatives of the citizens of Arizona, in protecting maternal health.”
This is one more example of Arizona leading the way to protect women’s health and safety!
