Statement from Center for Arizona Policy President Cathi Herrod
Health care professionals now have the freedom to live and work in accordance with their conscience without the fear of discrimination in employment.
Sponsored by Senator Nancy Barto, Governor Ducey’s signature today on SB 1439 means doctors and nurses can opt out of participating in end-of-life treatment if it violates their conscience without fear of termination, transfer, or other retaliatory measures.
Health care professionals should not be forced to take part in treatment that could end the life of a patient.
This is good, necessary law and I applaud the governor, Sen. Barto, and legislators for their commitment to protecting health care professionals’ personal rights.
Center for Arizona Policy promotes and defends the foundational values of life, marriage and family, and religious freedom. For more information, visit azpolicy.org.
