Abortion Activists: 2, Babies: 0

They weren’t radical bills. Most Americans would shudder at the thought of allowing a baby born alive to die alone on a cold table – or to be dismembered late in development. Still, the U.S. Senate this week defeated two bills that would have put an end to both inhumane practices.

The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would have required medical care for babies who survive abortion. That failed 56-41. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would have prohibited abortions after 20 weeks – the point at which most believe the preborn can feel pain, though some studies indicate they feel pain much earlier. That failed 53-44.

“This body ought to be able to stand 100 to zero against that barbarism,” Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb said in a floor speech before the vote. He called refusing to care for a live baby, “passive infanticide.”  He called out those senators he knew would vote against the legislation, accusing them of trying to obscure the debate and “use euphemisms about choice so you don’t have to admit to the American public that what’s happening on the floor today is probably that, like last year, 44 Democrats are going to filibuster an anti-infanticide bill.”

For the record, Arizona’s two senators voted opposite. Senator Kyrsten Sinema voted against the two bills while Senator Martha McSally voted in favor.

“SCARY. HORRIBLE”

You would think state lawmakers were planning a government overthrow the way opponents of HB2388 and SB1328 describe them. In reality, the identical bills would fund a Family Health Pilot program to help meet the needs of pregnant women seeking an abortion so they can instead choose life for the babies.

Most women who get an abortion do so because of economic needs, and they are unaware of the assistance available to them. A similar program caring for women in Texas found more than half of the women who were seeking to get an abortion, changed their minds and chose to continue their pregnancies.

One state representative actually called the program, “scary.” In misrepresenting the bills, she said the pilot program was “horrible.” The extreme rhetoric comes from pro-abortion activists flooding lawmakers with false information in an effort to kill the bill.

Actively fighting a program that helps pregnant women keep their babies or provide a wanting family with an adopted newborn – Now, that is horrible.

“PRAYER WORKS”

Less than four years ago, Mayra Rodriguez worked for Planned Parenthood in Glendale. Today, she leads prolife events, including the 40-Days for Life prayer event in front of that same abortion clinic. You might remember Mayra’s story.  Planned Parenthood fired her after she complained about dangerous and illegal conduct by an abortion doctor. She sued for wrongful termination and won a $3 million verdict against the abortion giant.

Now prolife, Mayra returned to the Glendale abortion clinic she once managed to kick off the Spring 40 Days for Life event.  Mayra stated, “During 40 Days for Life, patient rates drop drastically, sometimes below fifty-percent. The more people who pray on the sidewalk, the fewer women walk through those doors…Don’t give up; prayer works, I’ve seen it. I am here today because of your prayers.”
