THE WASHINGTON STAND: ‘The Shift Is Palpable’: Expert Weighs In on Secretary McMahon’s Meeting with Detransitioners

Zachary Gohl from The Washington Stand reports that Education Secretary Linda McMahon recently hosted a group of detransitioners at the Department of Education for “Detrans Awareness Day,” marking a significant shift in federal policy on gender ideology. This meeting represents an important step in affirming both the scientific reality of biological sex and the fundamental right of parents to direct their children’s education—principles CAP has consistently defended. Gohl quotes McMahon in his story:

“No teacher should attempt to persuade or coerce a student to undergo a gender transition. No parent should be lied to or prevented from knowing what is going on with their child’s mental or physical health. We stand firmly alongside parents, professionals, advocates, and especially de-transitioners, who understand firsthand the damage caused by indoctrinating kids to believe that they can ever be ‘born in the wrong body.’”

Secretary McMahon’s statement affirms what Arizona law recognizes: parents have the fundamental right to direct their children’s education. Her acknowledgment that children are being influenced toward harmful gender transitions without parental knowledge further validates concerns CAP has long raised about schools undermining parental authority on critical matters of their children’s wellbeing. Meg Kilgannon, senior fellow for Education Studies at Family Research Council said:

“The shift is palpable: from sexual revolutionaries to common-sense leadership that values parents, families, teachers, and communities in the service of learning and student achievement,”

As Arizona continues its efforts to protect children and uphold parental rights in education, this federal policy shift offers encouraging support for these important protections.
