ERA and the extreme consequences
After New York passed an extreme abortion law last week rolling back abortion restrictions and legalizing abortion up to the point of birth, Arizona must take a stand against such radical laws.
The Equal Rights Amendment is being sold as equal pay legislation, but equal pay is already the law. And the 14th Amendment, federal, state, and local laws all prohibit discrimination against women. Moreover, the ERA as written would likely enshrine abortion into the U.S. Constitution and roll back commonsense abortion restrictions – just like the New York law.

The Petition
Although I support equal rights for all people, I do not support he ERA. It is unnecessary and carries with it unintended consequences I cannot support. I do not want abortion enshrined into the U.S. Constitution and I certainly do not want commonsense abortion restrictions rolled back.
Equal Rights and equal pay for women are both already the law, and the ERA would do nothing to further those protections.
Because it is unnecessary and could lead to extreme abortion laws in the future, I oppose the ERA.
